A high fermentation beer, Jenlain Ambrée is one of the first specialty beers in France and is been brewed since 1922. It owes its success to its inimitable taste stronger than all fashions. Its copper color, its aromas of cooked fruit and caramel make it a beer widely recognized for tasting but also a perfect ally for cooking.

F: huge frothy white head, latter make a thin film. C: clear amber colour. A: malt and very fine hops, hints of grass, yeast. T: a little sweet but not too much, caramel, brown sugar, some like prunes/figs tones, dry on the palate, some woody tones, medium body, good carbonation, I don’t know much about French beers but this is worth to try if a bit overrated. 5/4/6/3/10 = 2.8 8/9/2015 F: big, tan, not long lasting. C: amber, clear. A: malty, fruity, hint of tomato, toffee, dried fruits, grassy, caramel, honey. T: malty, fruity, light grassy, caramel, hint of toffee, bit of alcohol, it was my first beer from this style in 2015, time to re-rate, better a little warmer than usual, good balanced, enjoyed, 0,5l can from supermarket “Super U et drive” near Fontoy, France.

0,33 flaske delt med Ovesen på tappekveld mars-15: mørk upusset kobber. Ikke helt frisk aroma og smak av tørket frukt og bær. Uspennende og lite som minner om det jeg forbinder med biere de garde.

Bottle shared with JMD at HNB 24.03.15. Dark orange. Off-white head and lacing. Sweet and slightly unfresh aroma. Fruity and with berries. Similar taste, also with dried fruits, dried berries and wine gum.

Pours a fairly clear amber color, topped with a nice white head. Malty aroma easily picked up with some caramel and yeasty smell, notes of fruits also present. Taste starts malty and sweet, some yeasty notes and obvious alcohol. Bitterness in the end. Not that nice to be fair.

Amberish color with a white head. Some lacing. Sweet malty and fruity aroma. Medium + body. A bit sweet and a moderate bitterness. Average carbonation. Fruity, malty, bready and some alcohol in the flavor. Quite sweet and unbalanced ale.

Bottle, 0.75l. Clear deep amber color with medium soapy white head and fair lacing. Aroma of caramel, toasted malt, yeast and herbal hops. Taste starts moderate sweet malty, following is fruity, bready with notes of honey, warming alcoholic mouthfeel and light bitter finish. Medium body, syrupy texture and average carbonation in palate. Interesting, although it lacks a bit of character...

Clear copper to deep amber colour, fine moussy beige head, stays for a while, good lacing. Toasted malt nose, bread, some apple-syrup, caramel, dough, herbs. Mild bitterness, medium sweetness, hints of fruit and nuts. Medium sweet and slightly bitter finish, full bodied, creamy texture.

Archetypical bière de garde, a bit stronger than it used to be and named after the village where the brewery is located. Thick, firm, sticky, off-white head, colour warm amber, nearly clear with quiet sparkling. Nutty malts in the nose, curaçao, peach, tomato, leafy hops, sweet tobacco, bitter honey, sage. Crisp palate, refreshing, nice dried fruits, some caramel malt sweetness, bit metallic, flowery and leafy hop bitterness in the finish and some sweetness too, smooth. I appreciated this one for its personality.
