Pours brown with a large, fading head.Nose shows nutty, toasty and light roasty notes. Faint cocoa too, along with soft spicy hops. Somewhat restrained.Similar nutty and toasty malt as flavours. The spicy hops follow through too. Very easy to drink.Carbonation seems just a little full on.

Growler. Dirty brown with a beige head. Caramel aroma with spices, coffee and vague citrus. A little watery, but the water’s nice enough. Not very sweet tasting, with as much chocolate as caramel, mild spices, nuts. 8C is insanely cold, palate fills out and spices, nuts and caramel gain prominence as it warms. Dry at the end with gentle spicy bitterness. A mite disjointed (the hops jar a bit with the malt flavours), but a pleasant quaffer with a fair bit of character.

Bottle at home shared with (and courtasy of) Veitafan. Pours a dark brown hazy colour with a medium light beige head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, leather and some wood. Coffee also present in the flavour along with dark malt and some chocolate truffles. Has a soft mouthfeel, and a light bitterness. An easy-drinking and great brown ale.

500ml bottle. Clear red glimmering darkest brown with huge stable frothy lacing tan head. Huge head gives only way to dry and slightly grassy hoppy aroma - no underlying malt notes detectable. Taste is grassy, dry, minimally soapy and sourish on a weak malt basis. So-so.

16.9oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a very very dark brown, almost black, with about a half finger of head. Aroma of roasty malt. Coffee and chocolate. Also, a good big of fermented dark fruit. Taste is light bitter. Roasty coffee and chocolate. Medium-full bodied with a pretty thick texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, I like it. Probably wouldn’t buy it again but I’ll definitely enjoy this one.

Dark amber colour with a beige head. Massive roasted aroma. Heavy flavour for an 4,5% ABV, but that is typical for Nøgne Ø. Not too far away from coffee, lots of roasted malt, light fruitiness in the background.
