Named after a classic car owned by the boss’s father, Lagonda has been a house beer since 1997. The beer was originally designated an IPA but we feel pale ale better reflects current beer definitions. Pale in colour, the malts provide a sturdy body on which is built a citrus and floral hop character.

Tap. Clear golden with big head. Nicw caramel malts, cotrussy and grassy hops. Medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a golden yellow with a generous white head. Not much of a nose – just some vague citrus and yeast. In the mouth it starts off with the sharpness of lemon peel, but then herbs and spices reach the tongue. Also, some peach to soften the flavour. So far, so good, but then the the finish is the hoirrble bitter lemon that I can’t stand. Very swiggable and enjoyable – until the end !

Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours classic gold, fairly transparent, with medium grained white foam. Aroma is herbaceous, melon, cereal. Body is average, like carbonation. Taste is medium-high bitter. Final is fairly long with medium bitterness.

Half at Craft Beer Company. Clear golden with small foamy head. Aroma is fruity, tart, melons and peaches. Taste turns more tropical, mango, guava, all with a drying botter backend.

On tap at Mikkeller Bar Oslo. Golden with a small head. Quite light with hops, citrus, some malt and biscuits. The body was medium as was the bitterness.

From bottle. Pours with a massive thick white head. Slightly cloudy golden colour. Strong lemony aroma with hints of pine and maybe a bit of peach too. Bit washing up liquid like but in a good way. Medium bodied with a lightly bitter finish. Extremely drinkable. Very nice British IPA, one of the best I've had.

(Can, 0.5 l - BB 21.02.2020, from a supermarket, 201907023) The beer poured deep golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, earth and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were earth, fruitiness, malts, biscuits and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy, malty and bitter. A pleasant brew with English hops and clean maltiness.

Can, 5%. Teaish hop aroma, hint of pine, and nicely pungent. Cloudy golden colour. Small frothy white head. Good clean hop flavour, grassy and piney, but not teaish. Clean.

Citrus, meadowsweet, thyme, toasty malts. Mild to medium sweet and dusty bitter. Watery. Feels like a tea infused IPA. Hardly balanced.
