This ale is traditionally highly hopped and robust to survive the long voyage to the Indian sub-continent. The result is a full-bodied Pale Ale with a zesty character. Dark golden in colour, pleasing toffee aromas, and distinctive floral citrus flavours.

Aroma: Slightly musty and peppery. Smells like a lager.

Appearance: Dark amber body. Thick white lasting head. Almost no carbonation.

Taste: Beautiful hop bitterness, almost like a pilsner. Crisp, sharp taste. No fruit notes, though.

Palate: Watery mouthfeel. Light carbonation. Very dry finish.

Overall: Not a typical IPA - this is all about bitterness and no a lot else. Lacking in complexity.

Cask at The Gate, Northwood. A dark golden/copper coloured pour with a small white head on top. Vague caramel, malty aroma. Tastes malty, hoppy, slight sweetness, caramel, fruity. This was surprisingly decent and in good condition and I certainly didnโ€™t expect to find it at an Ember Inn.
