Taiphoon is a pale, thirst-quenching ale with a distinctly hoppy, yet flower palate. The addition of lemongrass gives a zing to the flavour, making it an ideal accompaniment to spicy dishes.

Bottle, Ale Cellar, Darlington.. Very pallid light golden colour with lingering white head. Fair bit of sediment. Spicy aroma. Grassy citrus flavour. Something a bit different, refreshing.

Bottle starts fizzing and sputtering foam as soon as the cap is tilted a bit. I spend 10 minutes opening it. Clearly, it has not benefited from being stored for 7 months. Big coarse white head quickly shrinks into nothing. Yellow body. Dry, hoppy floral aroma with fruity notes. Bitter, slightly acidic, floral malty taste with fruity, resiny notes. There is an underlying sweetness, too. Bitter, chalky floral aftertaste. Quite nice. (0.5l bottle from Real Ale Ltd.)

Bottle, thought that I’d already rated this so quite surprised to note that I hadn’t. Pours a golden colour with white bubbly head, aroma is a little spicy with a hint of lemon in the background. Tastes quite sweet but refreshing and has vein of lemonyness running through it, bitter and dry towards the end.

(Bottle, White Horse, Parson’s Green, london 28 Apr 2007) Golden yellow colour with foamy white head. Fruity, spicy nose with tropical fruit and lemon. Malty, clean taste with fruity notes of tropical fruit, spicy notes of lemongrass and a fairly dry, soapy finish. Ok, but despite the spices, lacking some character.

500ml bottle from Booths. Clear pale gold with lasting white head. Thank goodness a bottle conditioned British beer. Delicate spice aroma, with elderflower hop. Little bit empty in mouth, may be lager malt used. Again light spicy thai flavour on finish. Bit of staleness on aroma. Not my favourite. Interesting flavours but weak in body.

Very good, extremely fine & dense head, upheld by good carbonation; orange-golden beer. Herbal-grassy-spicey nose, spring grains and a touch of citrus, quite perfumey. Lacking ’ a bit of taste ’ - this might go for the understatement of the year... It’s in fact perfectly neutral. Light, however not watery in FG - just bl**dy neutral, flavourless. Oh God.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours pale golden with a slight haze and a creamy, white head leaving some laces. Vaguely citrusy nose - perhaps from the lemon grass? Rather light body with a malty touch and a dry finish. Not particularly spicy - more like your typical Golden Ale. 090406
