R&D: Golden Ale

Bottle with much thanks to BelgianBeerGal. Pours with a hazy golden body and a huge white head. Good lace. Brett (C?...probably a blend after tasting it) aroma is clear at a far without even putting nose to glass. Tons of brett, dryness, light berries, some hops, acid, and a distinct metallic note. A bit grassy as well. I like the taste. Tons of tropical fruit and a bit of horse from the brett. Tobacco and light leather too. Decently lingering finish that is quite delicate. A decently strong tribute to Orval. Some straw and bready notes from the malts. Grassiness and nearly styrofoam from the hops (in all the right ways). A complex and delicate beer, very easy to drink. Small, lively bubbles.

Bottle from a trade with FlssmrBrewAlum. Pours hazy golden color with white head. Aromas of brett, floral hops and lemon peel. Grassy flavor and tartness from the brett. Light to medium body with a crisp, dry finish. Reminds me of Orval. Thanks Adam.

Courtesy of markwise. Pours deep gold with a touch of haze and nice looking off white head. The aroma is lemon, orange peel, grapefruit skin, fresh cut grass, a touch of grains and floral hops. Lots going on in the aroma. The taste is similar and pretty bright with lemon acidity, some orange peel and grapefruit, grassy meadow, graininess and some floral hops. It ends thin and watery and mildly refreshing.

Bottle 50cl. @ LCRBM09 - Low Countries RateBeer Meeting V, Kulminator, Antwerpen, Belgium.Clear medium orange color with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, brett. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090905]

500 ml bottle generously given to me by csbosox. Brewed 3-23-09 bottled 6-18-09. Pour is mostly clear golden yellow with a fluffy three inch white head. Some light splotched lacing as the head falls. Visible carbonation bubbles fly up from the bottom of the glass. Aroma of sharp funky yeasty Brett, straw malt and some dry old leather. This nose is all Brett, perhaps a bit too one dimensional, but pure and clean. Taste follows suit with big funky leathery Brett at the beginning, middle and through the long dry finish. Some mineral pokes through eventually. Straw is present, but only minimally. As with the nose, this is entirely about the Brett. Palate is medium, with super bone dry finish. I think they accomplished what they were going for in this beer, which I assume was to make a Brett bomb, but there really is no complexity or subtlety. From a research and development standpoint, it was interesting to see Brett taken to this extreme. Thanks for grabbing this for me Chris.

Lots of yeast in the aroma, and clearly recognizable as Belgian. Dry flavor. Some butter, herbs, vegetables. the comparison to Orval is appropriate. Gold color with moderation carbonation. Not sour yet, but that might change with some age in he bottle.

The beer pours with a clear golden color (can see through it) and a small head fades quickly. Aroma is all brett but its the type of brett that is turning into the goats oil, its it brett brux gone oily. Reminded me a lot of Wild Devil more so than anything close to Orval. Flavor is lightly bretty in that oily way still, some light herbal character, a bit of sweetness coming from somewhere. Its easy drinking but miles away from the brett beers that I like and a poor use of Brett B. in particular, as afar as I am concerned.
