Brewed to an extra strength compared with other draught stouts, only dark malts are used to produce a refreshing, smooth, clean tasting creamy stout with a delicate malt aroma.

Old Anchor, Tower Bridge. Clear but very dark brown beer. Good luxuriant cream coloured head. Palate is soft and dry. Dry dark malt with dry roasty bitterness. Offset by estery bubblegum and a little malt cream. The bitterness in the dry finish is both roast malt and hops. A robust low stout for it’s abv.

Half-pint, keg at Princess Louise. Nitro creamy white head resting over a jet black. Solid amount of lacing down the glass. Slightly roasted, half-sweet malts to the nose. The taste promotes chocolate malts with a little roastiness. Nice bitter coffee ending. Decent stout (London, 04.11.2012).

On tap at St Mary’s Vaults Stamford - Jet black body with a fast dissipating head. Chocolate malt coffee and smoke nose. Great complex flavour chocolate tart, a hint of coffee and a toasted taste that just keeps going. A full bodied, full flavour stout that is a joy to drink.

Drought beer tasted at Earl of Lonsdale, Portobello Road, London. Blackish brown color, big spongy tan head, coffee flavor, bitter coffee beans taste, low carbonation, long finish. Nice stout but the coffee flavor might a bit too strong.

Half pint: taken in the upstairs bar of the Princess Louise, Holborn, London; Oct 2011. Deep dark black body, with a good full head on top, this was sat in a UK half pint sleeve. Smells covered all the usual dry stout areas you’d expect, coffee, chocolate and roasted/toasted malts, a hint of smoke, but only a hint. The taste is semi bitter and certainly dry, those aroma ingredients also found in the flavours. The dryness becoming more evident as the mouth gets used to the drink. Smooth and silky, even though it’s dry: couldn’t drink it all night, but two pints would be fine.

Jet black with thin, creamy head. Intense burnt malt flavour. Lots of smoke in the aroma too. Medium thick texture, slightly oily. The bitter malt aftertaste is strong.

On tap at The Rose of York, Richmond, Surrey 23.07.11 on the Thames Tipple Pours dark brown verging to black with a light beige head. Light nuttiness on the nose along with a roastiness and bit of chocolate. Taste is also a little nutty, roasty and with coffee coming through. Quite smooth but with some sweetness and dry at finish. Good stuff and incredible value at £2.12 a pint (as I recall) A6 A5 T7 P4 Ov13 3.5
