16.9 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown color almost black with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is a cocoa and black licorice. Decent lacing on this one. The taste is chocolate and caramel with a dry finish. An excellent porter from Nethergate.

500 ml. bottle. Aroma of chocolate and hints of dark fruits. Near opaque brown color with ruby lights. The head almost never was. Medium bodied. Chewy, almost creamy carbonation. Chocolate, Italian prune, caramel sugar. Finishes rather dry. Mouth is subject to near astringency. It is really good!

bottle, brewed in Clare, Suffolk, before the brewery moved to the present location. Black colour, about an inch of creamy froth, which is very persistent and remains on top of the beer until the last sip. Malty, hints of roasted malt, wild berries, chocolate. There is a slight fruity sourness present. Lovelly porter!

Smallish beige head. Barely translucent dark red body. Fruity burnt licorice aroma. Sweetish burnt tobaco and cocoa taste, kind of weak and thin. Full, smooth, rich mouthfeel. Dry, burnt caramel aftertaste with hoppy notes. Interesting contrast between richness of mouthfeel and the thin taste. Feels nice, but has little taste. (0.5l bottle.)

Dark chestnut coloured. Smells of bitter chocolate and raisins. Also tastes of chocolate and dark fruit with a long dry finish. Good.

500ml bottle picked ut at Utobeer in London and sampled with Finn. Rusty dark body under a medium off-white head. Aroma of dark and dried fruits. Herbal flavour with roasted berries and malt. Pleasant bitterness at the end. Just as good as the cask version (enjoyed 24.09.2006).

Bottled. Dark brown with red notes, and a medium beige head. Roasted and smoked aromas with coffee and chocolate notes. Flavor is of chocolate and roasted malt. The finish has a chocolaty, dry bitterness with some smoke notes. Beautiful lacings. Not as full-bodied as I could wish for. (060124)

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark - but far from black - closer to mahogany. Dry and rather full body with a distinct and lasting bitterness. Decent all right. 191101
