With this special brew, Batch One, we dared to experiment with combining our usual devotion to a solid malt profile with the addition of American aroma hops. Batch One is an American-inspired Ale characterized by its vast, full body and generous use of hops. In the glass, it has a reddish-brown colour with a coppery glow, and a beige-coloured head leaves a nice lacing behind. For this brew we have chosen to only use the noble Simcoe hop, both for boiling and the following dry-hopping. The hops give the beer its fresh citrus-like character and impart a solid bitterness to balance the sweet caramel malt.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, off-white head and a hazy bronze body. Good lacing. Aroma of hops, alcohol, wood and cinnamon. Taste is fruity with hops, caramel bitterness and alcohol. Lightly bubbly and a thick water mouthfeel.

Cloudy amber, creamy golden head. Flowery aroma, citrus, peach. A bit too sweet. Medium sticky body. Quite a bit lingering peach, tilts to the perfumed.

OTH tasting 09/06/08 courtesy of gunhaver. Pours orange-copper and hazy with thin white head. The aroma is muted pine hops, smooth crystal malts, varied malts and more crystal malts. The taste begins with pine hops but really more grapefruit and tangelo like hops. Behind the hops I get sweet malts, roasted malts and crystal malts. This is smooth and very tasty and is one of those flavored beers that are also easy drinking. Since I was able to get the cap off then by definition this beer has drinkability. This is good stuff.

On tap at EBF 08. Yep, lots of American grapefruit hop, lots of sweet malt. It’s in the Rogue style. Still it’s big, silly, but good. It’s a little metallic.

Cloudy, copper body with a ring around the rim of the glass. Smell of sappy, dark oranges. Powerful taste that starts quite malty, developing into a heavy hopped character and with lomg lived endnotes of hop bitterness. Mostly masked alcohol (100ml from tap at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen (12.09.2008).

Had this at European Beer Festival, Kobenhaven 12-09-08. Poured dark hazy amber with small head. Stunning big hoppy hit, and with a nice lingering bitter finish. All that I can think is that this is a bit like being slapped in the face with a big bag of wet hops, big and bolshie aromatic American hops. Hoptastic.
