(473ml can from L'Axe du Malt, Quebec City) Pours black with a small dark tan head and no lace. Aroma is loaded with dark chocolate and rich coffee, somewhat sweet but very earthy and with light accents of vanilla and a solid roasted grain body; the coffee infusion is very deep and broad with no real green pepper quality. Flavour up front is moderately sweet dark caramel malt with rich earthy semi-sweet dark chocolate and coffee, subtle vanilla overtones, lightly acidic burnt grain, finishing dry and earthy, coffee and cacao, some dark chocolate residual sweetness, light to moderate roast bitterness in the aftertaste. Medium plus oily body with slightly high carb for style. A very pleasant surprise for a coffee-driven stout that never devolves into the worst characters of coffee additions; the care with adjunct dosing paid off here.
