Grassy, slightly malty aroma. Sweetish, malty taste with pear and orange. Some hopbitterness. Unconvincing and a bit sticky.

Overgezet van Untappd. Het is een goudgeel bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. Het heeft een moutige geur. De smaak is moutig en wat fruitig.

Helle Bernsteinfarbe, herb-aromatischer Geruch.

Bit more tasty than the normal pilsner, but nothing special. I don’t see the added value of this one.

Jan 2008: 30cl Brown bottle, the first of three Hertog Jan beers I intend reviewing today, my Dutch Beer Afternoon. Poured into a Corsendonk tulip glass. Old gold with a good white head, it looks like a tough lager. The bottle claims it to be an ’Extra Pilsner’. It is very clear and does appear a clean, tidy lager/pils. The head soon goes, just like most lagers. No aroma apart from the normal yeasty, beery smell pilsners give off, it gets my regular lager 3 for a score. It tastes like a lager beer with extra alcohol thrown in, there is not much more to say on the matter. There is some body to the beer and it does hang about in the mouth, but it just doesn’t float my boat. Nothing wrong with this beer, but there is something not right, it may be too much alcohol, or it may be the hops used, I can’t put my finger on it.

33cl Bottle @ home. Clear yellow / golden color, white head. Smell malts, grains and a little fruit. Taste fruit, little sweet, malts and slightly hop. Bit low body.

30 cl bottle. Clear, golden liquid with medium white head. Smells of grain, herbal/floral hops and some malt. Taste is a bit dry, no sweetness, with medium bitterness. Nice, clean taste. Light bodied with good carbonation and a bit watery mouthfeel. OK pilsener, not more. A bit boring.
