In 1410, Waterland was owned by Count William VI. His treasurer Willem Eggert had to restore order and in 1410 he obteined the fiefdom of Purmerend. On the occasion of this event, SNAB brewed this specialty beer 600 years later. Willem Eggert build Purmersteijn castle. He died in 1417. 1410 is a unique, distinctive specialty beer with a pleasant balance between fruitiness and hop bitterness.

For starters, this beer looks lovely. Aroma of light malt, fruits, fresh hops. Flavour is light sweet with a moderate bitter finish. Refreshing and easily drinkable Belgian Ale, I like the use of hops here.

On tap at Arends Nest Amsterdam. Hazy amber colour lasting cream head. Woody malty aroma. Some pukey malt thing going on. That sweet Dutch malt thing I just don’t like. Vague hop. Some tangerine fruit. Everything I dislike about some Dutch beers in a glass. Even some lavender soap flavour. Eek. Not for me.

Dark blond colour with lasting lacy head. A balanced blond beer with a dry and bitter finish. Good session beer but offers little more than a good pilsener.

Slightly hazy pale amber colour, good frothy off-white head, recedes slowly, good lacing. Aroma sweet malty, fruity, peach, candy sugar, soap, citrus. Taste medium sweet, light bitter, fruity notes. Medium body, oily to creamy texture, soft carbonation, finish lingering mild bitter, fruity and herbal notes, overall a decent beer but nothing special.
