Draft. Pitch black with almost no head. Coffee/chocolate, I didn’t detect too much smokiness but maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention.

355 ml bottle from Erzengel. Thanks a lot for this gem! BB 22/01/2012. Oooops ... Poors out jet black. Smallest fast fading beige head. Intensive dark berry fruity smell with malt. No real smoke. Taste starts malty with dark berry fruits. Short cardboardy section, maybe due to the age. Increasing burnt paper and wet leather, some coffee. Interesting experience. Again thanks a lot!

Nice dry beginning. Malt, dry in body, but not too deep. Refreshing smooth, mild caramel, moderate bittered. Sessionable but I miss the depth a bit.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein sehr dunkelbraunes fast schwarzes Bier mit bräunlicher Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr röstmalzig, rauchig, dunkle Schokolade, Kaffee. Geschmack sehr röstmalzig, bittere Schokoladig, Torf, Kaffee.

Poured a dark mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is of smoke and peat that almost defies you not to take a sip! The flavour is strongly bitter, but not overpowering, with a lots of liqourice and dark chocolate and plenty of spice on the palate. Smoked "double lager" ?? Really? This is a superb beer and I could drink this all night long if it were not for the 7.8% ABV, which is incidentally very well controlled and does not dominate the beer.

355 ml bottle @ Tap East, London. Dark brown, almost black body with a nice beige head. Aroma of dark, roasted malt, bitter chocolate, mild coffee and a light hint of smoke. Flavor is sweet, light roasted malt, mild coffee, hint of smoke, pleasant bitterness and some dry fruit. Very smooth and pleasant. Medium body, actually a bit surprised that this is such light and easy to drink in body. All in all a very pleasant beer.
