Cask at the Wenlock Arms, London on 14th June 2009. Solidly and intensely black with small off-white head which quickly dissipates. Strong chocolate on the nose then a sharp and intense burst of bitter chocolate and vanilla which register side by side in the first kick. A long, deluxe bitter chocolatey finish that becomes drier. Delicious, and a very good dessert drink too. Very enjoyable, and not too strong at four and a half abv.

Bottle. Presumably ruby-amber coloured, literally pitch-black with a tanned lacy head, sticking to the glass. Dry roast-malty nose with some fruity undertones. Moderate dry bitter flavour, light to medium bodied. Lingering, dry roasted-bitter finish with hints of cacao. Good stuff............

Bottle, Barleycorns, Nantwich. Black colour, next to no head. Aroma was dark chocolate and roasted malt. Thin body. Unappealing, somewhat teedious flavour that lacked real body. Nothing really wrong with this , but seriously overrated on here, just canโ€™t see the appeal.... Each to his own, blah blah cliche cliche
