Bottle 40/100. Cloudy dark red - brown beer. Short lived tan head. Softish palate. Rich creamy toffee malt. Well joined up with orangey fruits and a little aniseed. Subtle chocolate. Semi dry finish. Nice barleywine! Tasty and easy drinking!

Unlabeled silver can autographed by the brewers. What a pleasant surprise this beer was. I’ve had one other beer from this brewery, the underwhelming, vegetative Lazy Daze Lager. Talk about night-and-day difference and not just because the Batch 1000 is a big beer. Red, orange body with some sediment. Minimal off-white head. Healthy aroma of caramel, toasted grain, cherries with a hint of citrus and dough. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and moderately bitter, achieving a nice balance. Medium to full body with a creamy texture that turns sticky in the finish. Moderate to lively carbonation. Warming alcohol lingers. Caramel and toffee combine with fruit tastes, especially — prunes, raisins. Enjoyable sipper. Thanks for sharing Spudclampdawg.

2008 MBG Winter Beer Fest. This was my top beer of the fest, a candy-like, sweet, almost vinous barleywine with layers and layers of caramel and brown sugar, warmed by alcohol notes. Very smooth and satisfying, and one I’d like to drink more of.
