We’ve been brewing and refining our smoked helles for nearly five years and in that time our appreciation for the beer has only grown. It was quite rewarding to see The Cabin land on Wine Enthusiast’s list of Top Beers in 2022 (at #11 no less). It’s all about nuance with this style - gentle smoke, a kiss of malt sweetness and the slightest amount of bitterness needed to tie it altogether. This batch is hitting on all fronts and exemplifies why we think this beer is a great introduction to the world of smoked lagers.

Draught at Row 34, 4/2/21. Hint of chill haze to this deep brass to graham cracker-colored beer. White head atop is small, but shows moderate retention. Mild, but deep and aromatic smoke (pepper, light wood) mixes with rich, honey-dense malts as light floral and spicy hops help keep balance and add brightness. No alcohol or flaw. Strong minerality on the end. In the mouth it's soft, peppery, moderately smokey and supremely malty with excellent attenuation. Great balance, tons of flavor and growing smokiness that doesn't overwhelm, yet should still satisfy the Bamberg enthusiast in its depth of flavor. Clean and full of mineral and lingering, crisp bitterness.

Pours clear gold into a shaker. Bright white head with medium retention recedes leaving scant, trailing sheets. Sweet smoke and hay aromas. Medium bodied and dry with sweet maple bacon, smoked meat and straw upfront turning to toasted multigrain sourdough and bitter earth in the lasting finish. The first few tastes were very nice, but it becomes a little cloying over time..

Can. Pours a hazy gold with frothy white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is toasted malt, smoke, leather. Slick body, smoke, ash, wheat, dry finish, good.
