Tes pour. No foam. Alcohol nose. Fermented grape taste with a boozy palate.

16 oz can from Bier:Thirty. Dark brown pour with cap of beige head. Sweet aroma, raisins, grapes, molasses. Grapes, wine become more prominent in the taste, sweet, sugary. Not usually a fan of wine barrel, but works marvelously here.

Really not digging this variant. Wine barrel-aging seems to have accentuated the sweetness while adding a musty, metallic off flavor, creating a copper-ish undertone on the fade that clashes with the yeast and candi sugar. Dark fruits are present, as is oak, but the vinous notes are subdued at best, and the weird penny element isn't going away. Shoulda stuck with the bourbon barrels.

A surprise find recently in Orlando, I like Three Philosophers, the bourbon barrel aged version somewhat less, surprisingly. Let’s see what wine barrel aging does for it. A Straffe Hendrik chalice for this 16 oz can, a dark brown body with caramel colored edges. A very light presence of light tan foam. The nose, dark fruit and floral, curious. But the drink is most important of course. I determine a lot of flowers, quite vinous and little quadrupel influence. I can appreciate the effort but not tripping my trigger here. And this coming from a big quadrupel fan.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is cherry on top of cherry. Not much else thought and that is a bit disappointing. Flavor is again big on the cherry but not much else. Maybe some tootsie roll sweetness. Not much of a yeast presence or a wine barrel presence. Nice cherry all around but not much beyond that.

$4.75 pint can, BR. Pours hazy brown with an inch of beige head. Aroma is tart cherry, red wine, caramel. Flavor is caramel, red wine, earth, wood, yeast, tart cherry, green grasses. I'm not sure a red wine barrel is the best option here.

Sampled from a can this beer poured a dark brown color with a medium sized foamy dark tan head that left minimal lacing. The aroma was red wine, caramel and a bit of cocoa. The flavor was malty and toasty with tangy cherry, raisin, red wine and cocoa. Very long finish. Medium body.

Can from The Davis Beer Shoppe at 9.3%. Pours ruddy brown. The pour stream is clear enough, but the width of the glass renders it a bit hazy/cloudy. Slight fizz for head. Deep inhale to get something decipherable. It's actually red wine with some wood. Caramel and cherries seem present, as well as mildly dark malt. Med body plus a little. The flavor is very cherry. Some slightly musty wood; some dark malt. Very clean in its way. Can indicates it's not strictly a quad. It's a blend of quad and kriek. Which explains a few things. The red wine seems to have gotten lost. Very tasty ale it is.

On tap at Beer Shop NYC. Pours dark red brown. Cherry, funk, tobacco, dry red wine spice, toffee, little vinegar flavour without big tartness. Medium body. Interesting, and pretty tasty.
