Two American malts come together in this Imperial IPA as several hop varieties vie for dominance throughout the aroma and flavor. This ale is not simply hopped, nor simply hoppy. It is heavily dosed with a complex contrivance of hops over the course of two weeks and allowed to condition until it deemed worthy of consumption by those who enjoy an intensely bitter, yet well-balanced brew.

19.2oz can from Beer Emporium Corvallis. Light cloudy golden pour with a thin foamy head. No hazy here, a classic NW DIPA all the way. Aroma is light sweet malts and piney hops. Taste brings caramel flavors before a thick layer of piney hops covers the palate. Bitter finish.

Draft - Caramel and candy floss hops. Clear gold with a rich white head. Bitter, caramel and tons of orange with a light booze finish. Proper old school imperial.

Bottle, as McKenzie Hopasaurus Rex. Pours clear amber with a medium off-white head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving a nice residual and good lacing. Aroma is light, buttery with notes of citrus, caramel and pine. Flavor is medium sweet and medium bitter, not really that well defined, smooth and easy to drink but undistinctive. Lingering harsh bitterness gives away the IBU, but the ABV is pretty well masked.

Bottle with the McKenzie label. Pours hazy light copper with a foamy off-white head. First impression was resin aroma, next was non-citrus fruit, then citrus. Full bodied. Almost chewy. Very hoppy with a fair amount of brown sugar background. I’m going with earthy/resin/citrus for hop flavor. It’s pretty smooth - the hop burn is mild, but the hop impact on the mouth continually increases. It finishes very, very hoppy. Nice!

Draught. Orange red with medium white head. Coat lacing. Full citrusy aroma. Lekker full body with more hop. Hop finish. Worth looking for.

Dark clear amber color, small steady off-white head, lace. Nutty, flowery, a bit citrusy aroma. Medium-bodied. Sweet fruity-hoppy flavor, pine, pineapple leading to woodish, dry finish. Doesn’t feel 100 IBU beer - easy to drink DIPA. Warming alcohol in the aftertaste.
