Death by Chocolate Cake. What would happen if we took one of the nation’s best loved, super-indulgent desserts for inspiration, and applied it to our most indulgent beer? Even more cacao nibs, even more cacao husks, even more lactose, even more wood. It’s doubled down and ramped up to imperial strength. We’ve increased the ABV slightly this year and welcome back Amburana wood. These spicy, fragrant spirals impart all kinds of flavours, not dissimilar to the complexity of tonka beans, making the beer a truly unique experience.

Pours black, no real head. Scent is mildly herbal. Taste is full, creamy with a sharp, bitter edge. Amburana / Tonka aroma. Not nearly as great as the edition before this.

12 oz. can, pours black with a small tan head. Nose is loaded with deep dark cocoa upfront, with some amburana wood, and a touch of spice. Flavour is rich and velvety, with lots of amburana wood and loads of rich chocolate. There's a touch of cinnamon-like spice, but it's mostly just lots of dark chocolate and wood. Love that amburana character. Delicious.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver, tag 041120
Dark brown colour, small head. Aroma of cacao, chocolate. Good body, moderately sweet; upfront, flavour of chocolate and cacao dust; a bit spicy, tobacco; layes of chocolate cake; the alcohol is not evident.
Excellent.

330ml on Alex's porch. Appearance: dark brown with a beige head. Aroma: cinnamon like notes, chocolate, moderately sweet. Taste: along the same lines, medium body as for 10.2%, a bit dry and black chocolate aftertaste. Overall: pretty good, Cigar City style stout, but not that spicy.

A big thank you to Grumbo for this gift and for changing me from the commercial beers of the caillou.

Tap at BGB. Pitch black body, scant traces of a brownish head. Aroma... Wow, hmm.. mixture of carob, tonka, raisins and cocoa. Mostly tonka tho. Lean, drinkable taste, tonka ruling the place over a cocoa-raisin mix. A bit on the lighter side, some alcohol shows up but... Very drinkable and tasty. Excellent!

330 ml can. Pours black with short tan head. Aromas of Amburana, dark rich chocolate, fruity vanilla and slick roasted malts. Flavours follow same. The wood is beautiful. Rich and tasty.

Dark brown, thick head. Nice chocolate aroma, touch of alcohol, the tonka shows through, but oh yeah that beautiful amburana spiciness. It's been a while, and I absolutely love what amburana does to beer like this. Super rich on the palate, sweet, thick, with a cinnamony, amburana thing going on, all kinds of chocolate. It's like taking a late night churro and chocolate, but transporting it from CDMX to Sao Paulo. Love it.
