Scattered all over the Silk Road, Caravanserai was a sight for sore eyes for the camel train master transporting goods from Asia.

These fortified inns are a beautiful sight, like shining beacons of light, music, and life in the lonely desert, its shimmering cinders fighting off the Siberian wind, with smoke and exotic fragrances seducing any weary traveler.

And it’s a great place to find an authentic old rug you can stick on the wall back home!

Can sample at a tasting at Yoav's place. Black. Smokiness, roast, licorice, tea, soy sauce, sweetish and umami, bitterish finish, full-bodied.

Imperial stout with Lapsang Souchong. Pretty smokey, in a rich and meaty way. Thick mouthfeel, rich flavours. Pretty sharp, may be the beer itself or because of the smoke. Also some caramelly sweetness going on. Fun and well made.

AUG-2019. Draft at BCBF. Pitch black, dark espresso head. The aroma is not that earth shattering - just a regular good extra strong stout with all the dark malts might, augmented by some smoked herbs. Ok, it is great. The taste is on the borderline of human ability to perceive a food/drink intensity - as big as one can bear. Dark malts, still bitter, the right boozy heat, those smoked herbs... Great. 4,4/5.

MAR-2019. Bottle. Deep black, really dark liquid beige head. Smells of smoked tea and green hops, olive brine. There's some roast malts and dark sugars but the tea is actually stronger than them. A 13% abv monster that smells like tea...? Ok. The taste is a really really strong inky stout concentrate on one hand, but pretty neutrally balanced on the other. It does not feel like a sweet liquor, neither over-roast or too hoppy - just the right balance of malts, dark sugars, slightly acid roast and moderate to strong hops. You get some smoke as well as herbal notes from the tea, but these mostly act as a decor rather than a leading force. The taste is super intense, yet the body is pretty palatable and the mouthfeel is really smooth. So yeah, a questionable aroma, a great balanced flavour with a nice touch of smoked tea and a tastebud-overloading intensity - that's what you get from this stout. 4,0/5.
