Vuur & Vlam is an overly hopped beer. Yet, it's not aggressive in it's bitterness or too grassy from the hops. We mainly retrieve the fruit and floral aromas from the hops. Giving it a huge hop character with the nasty bitterness. Flavor indication: citrus, floral, light grassy. Translates as Fire & Flames

Bottle 33cl. @ RBESG 09 Grand Tasting @ [ The Harlequin, Sheffield, England. ]Unclear hazy medium to dark grey yellow color with a large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to white head. Aroma is moderate malty, moderate to heavy hoppy, perfume, modrate to heavy yeasty. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and heavy bitter with a average to long duration. To much yeast both in aroma and flavor IMO. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090719]

Cask@GBBF2009. Hazy amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is wood, cookies, mild chocolate and some nuts. Flavour is quite much the same. Quite herbal notes in the flavour as well. Pleasantly balanced.

Bottled. Very cloudy murky brown color, big frothy off-white head. Aroma of fresh hop, bit grapefruit, bit grassy, citrus. Slight aggressive hops still, especially for such a low alcohol beer. Quite nice, but a bit overcarbonated perhaps? First version had bit too much yeast in it, and quite some carbonation. Rerate is more balanced. Very nice grapefruit and pine aroma. Good firm bitter taste. Good stuff.

RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Hazy orange colour, big off white head. Aroma of caramel, citrus, yeast, hops. Flavour is sweet, caramel, yeasty spiciness, grapefruit bitter finish. Medium bodied. I only got the yeasty part of the bottle, so definitely need to re-rate this one. 737312 Re-rate: On tap at In de Wildeman. Murky orange brown colour, white head. Aroma of hops, yeast, citrus. Flavour is citrus, yeast, light spicy, good grapefruity bitterness overall. Bitter drying finish. 837314

Bottle from Alvinne. Hazy apricot color with a decent beige head - finely bubbled. Lots of citrus/grapefruit aroma. Medum plus body with frothy/creamy combination. Flavor is grapefruit and floral over a slight caramel backbone. This finishes way towards dry, and the bitter just goes on forever. 42.6 EBU? I’d have guessed much higher. Except I don’t know how EBU equates to IBU. Duh! Same thing. Really tasty, hoppy drink. Long live ideosyncracy.

Very big, just off-white head, dense and very stable over hazy pale amber beer. Brandy-like alcohol, cakebottom and "some" USA-hops, coming in wafts. The sweet cake, however, is very outspoken. Bitter, hops-dominated taste, with some woody & shrubbery notes, but not much else. The hopflavour profile brings it close to some superstrength British bitter. Unbelievable thick MF for such a relatively light beer. Emulates a double IPA, whereas it is IPA at most. Aftertaste seems to demonstrate the "Vlam", as it is a bit chilipepper hot. Another ideosyncratic beer from Menno.
