We called this cyder Imperial in honour of our great grandfather JB Chevallier’s success at the Imperial Fruit Show in 1921. Every year we craft a special vintage.

An exceptional full-bodied cider, made with a blend of muscovado sugar and a single year's harvest of bittersweet apples.

Aspall sold this non-vintage specific version of its Imperial Cyder outside the UK, and stopped adding a sequential harvest number to their Imperial Vintage Cyder in 2023, following the release of Harvest No. 293.

Bottle from Astor Wines. $7.99ish. Poured into a pint.
Pale iced tea. Clear. Still. Sleek.
Stuffy, hot, boozy scent, Sour wood. Cheap whiskey. Suspect stink & sweat.
Taste is stiff & bittersweet. Lots of wood, red apples, & rubbing alcohol. Not carbonated. Did I mention that assy sweat from before? Leaving it alone to air out gets rid of a bit of that BO, but it does nothing for the rest of the brew.
Harsh & ugly. This is bad.

Sampled at the 2013 Chicago Cider Summit. Pours a clear deep amber gold with no head whatsoever. Aroma is mainly dry apples with a slight sweetness and must underlying. Aroma has a combination of dry and musty apple with some earthiness and a touch of tartness in the finish.

Bottled@my birthdaybash@Chriso. Golden colour with a small white head. Aroma is sweet apples with some mild sugary notes. Flavour is rather sweet apples and sugary as well. Also some mild alcohol to it. A bit too sweet, otherwise it tasted quite genuine.

Spritzy, pearling but no head, pale copper liquid. Intense apples’ aroma, mainly sweet, and some kind of aged liqueur, fine, known, but can’t pinpoint it. Inviting! Taste doesn’t disappoint: great flavour with meaty esters and apples, as some haute cuisine apple-venison sauce... would make some spectacular reductions indeed! Sweet, but not cloying with a very welcome apple/malonic acidity. Spritzy, light but slick. Very nice - one to vie with the Québec ice-ciders.

Bottle at Pat’s birthday tasting at chriso’s. One of my contributions! Pours clear gold with a fine, fizzy white head. Sugary apple aroma. Very sweet flavor, sugar, apples. Yep. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish, light boozy apples, sugary apples, plain apples. One of (if not THE) best imperial cyders on the market today.
