“It is the pleasure and pride of the cider growers of Herefordshire to have always ready for a friend a bottle of good Foxwhelp cider of a good year.”
So wrote Hogg & Bull in their epic late 19th century work, the Herefordshire Pomona.
Starting life as a single barrel of Foxwhelp from the 2015 vintage, over the years it was used in part for blending (a little goes a long way), always being topped up with more Foxwhelp from subsequent vintages. Along the way it was also supplemented with Harry Masters Jersey and Ellis Bitter, even a little Art of Darkness 2016.
An unexpected but welcome smokiness has crept into the cider from the wood, and time has gone a long way to polish the sometimes coarse acid of young Foxwhelp. Real fruit sweetness has also emerged, complementing the red fruits and citrussy vibe of the cider. It’s elegant, complex and very long at the finish.
A limited run of 120 bottles, this is only available to Little Pomona Club Members and in person at our tasting room.

19/3/2021. 110ml bottle at Little Pomona's Some Like It Still! zoom tasting. Pours clear golden orange with a short lasting bubbly white head. Aroma is woody, smoky, peaty, whisky case, orange blossom, orange cream biscuit. Nice tartness, quite dry. Medium body. Very soft carbonation. Light acidic finish. Developed nicely as it warmed slightly, its smoky peaty side mellowed. Dry finish. Enjoyable.

750ml bottle from Little Pomona. Clear golden orangey colour, afew short-lived bubbles on top and nose of islay whisky cask, woody, smokey, meaty, salty, phenolic. Taste is zingy, tangy apple, tart, woody, with smoke and woody oak barrel notes, plus some whisky hints and mellow tannin. Medium bodied, low carbonation, dry finish. Very drinkable.
