bottle, traded with MoritzF. Amber colour, big white head. Malty and with lovely smoke flavours. Rather full-bodied and well-balanced. A good one.

Bottle, thanks to Lach (mullet) for bringing this over from Bavaria!
Clear, light amber body with lots of carbonation. Aroma of smoke, smoked bacon, caramel and some soapiness. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet flavour. Quite well balanced, but not extremely complex or appealing. Decent Rauchbier however.

Bottle from BOE 28-09-07 Pours amber with a tight white head, nice looking beer with good clarity. Smoked bacon initially then this wanes and I get a sort of burnt cabbage and bacon smell. The taste is very smokey like a bratwurst I know that the smokiness is probably fooling me into thinking this but this beer does have an initial meatiness from it, eventually the sweet malts emerge sooty faced from the burning embers as if to demonstrate that this beer does have more facets to its character than just being a smokey joe. Slowly as more air gets to it and I linger over drinking this beer the smokiness mellows to reveal a touch of bitterness along with those sweet malts, this is a wonderful beer.

(Draught at Ölbaren, Copenhagen, 2 Aug 2007) Amber colour with brief white head. Malty, smokey nose with notes of smoked ham. Malty, smokey taste with smoked ham or sausages. The smokiness doesn’t get overwhelming, but stays well balanced throughout. Medium body, balanced swetness, not overly bitter. Very drinkable.

2010-11-06, bottle from Maruhn, Darmstadt, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Clean copper color, with generous compact head. It has a mild aroma of smoke and fresh wood, sweet malt. Ordinary body strength, but the mouthfeel is very smooth; there is a good malt and smoke flavor, not powerful but elegant as it is for the aroma; some sweetness, almost like a Märzen, appreciated in these beers. Correct bitterness. Pleasant.

2010-10-22, draught at Ølbaren, Copenhagen, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Clean dark gold color; creamy head. Nice aroma, smoke and cereals, cereals’ husk. The body is lean indeed, with some cereals flavor, malt, reasonable smoke; it’s not as fat as an Aecht Schlenkerla, but it still has the beautiful harmony of German beers. The final is lightly metallic; correct bitterness. Pleasant, maybe too much cereals.

2007-08-07, draught at Ølbaren, Copenhagen, 7-4-6-3-13=33
Beautiful golden color; creamy head. Nice sweet, smokey aroma. The mouthfeel is good, with some malt flavor and good smokey character, sweet, maybe not enough bitter.

Draught (5.1% as Göller Kaiser Rauchbier). Deep golden colour, small whiute head. Aroma is smoked along with some caramel malts and slight glueish hints. Flavour is smoked malts and some rather sweet hints from something. Still very refreshing and pleasant.

Bottled. An orange beer with sediment in the bottom and no head. The aroma is sweet with a very light fruity note. The flavor is sweet with light notes of smoke and bacon - too light for my liking. The mouthfeel is sparkling at first and dry in the end.

Light copper brown color, small off-white head. Smokey, oaky aroma. Smoked wood in the flavor. Bamberg-like smoke malts here but in weaker and more watery form than in Scherlenkas. Crisp citrus in the aftertaste. Nice, drinkable session rauchbier.

Draught, 5.2% at Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà, Rome. Good smoky aroma, chew tobacco and firewood. Clear copper colour. Semi-stable head. Nicely smoked flavour, quite distinct. Soft carbonation. Ends on a sweet and sour note. Quite harmonious and drinkable.
