Cask at Hops, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. Chocolate and malts to the fore in the aroma. Immediate reaction in the mouth, is how sweet and watery it is. However, flavour does come through in due course. Chiefly roasted malts but with good helpings of milky chocolate and a little coffee and hints of fruit. It’s OK, but Rat have done better beers than this.

From wooden cask, third shared with Finn at Manchester Beer & Cider Festival, Wood Bar. Pitch black in the glass, a few bubbles on the surface, scattered lacing. Bread-like malts on the nose added by chocolate. Slightly spiced chocolate malts to the taste buds followed by a fruity bite towards the finish. Smooth on the swallow. Pleasing. (2nd day of the festival, 23.01.2020).
