7% stout which pushes our brew kit to the limit! Every malt we keep in stock is used in a full to the brim mashtun, with generous bittering hop addition, finished with natural vanilla extract in the fermenter. Iron fist in a velvet glove.

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish brown with minimal cream head. There’s malts and some dark fruits in the aroma. In the mouth the flavour starts off as liquorice and roast malts, plus hints of chocolate and alcoholic strength. After a while milky coffee comes to the fore, along with cola and dandelion and burdock. Finish is boozy ! Excellent !

Sample, thanks to Grumbo. Deep mahogany appearance, off-white cap. A bit more chocolatey and less roasty than 'Plague'. Decent overall.

16/4/2022. Bottle shared with the ITFC boys at the Rotherham beer share. From Raise The Bar, Chapel en le Frith. Pours clear very dark mahogany brown with a small frothy off-white to beige head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla. Roasted malt, berries. Moderate sweetness, moderate roasted bitterness, touch tart. Medium body, oily, average to soft carbonation. Pretty good.

Third, gravicask, at the 22nd Oxford Beer & Cider Festival. Shared with Finn. Almost black in the glass, clingy lacing, shiny naked surface. Quite inviting smell of vanilla chocolate. Hints of fruit to a dominating flavour profile of mid-sweet chocolate malts. Has got hints of roasted coffee towards the ending. Fine depth. Pretty good. (25.10.2019).
