Parallel tasting of End of Darkness #1 and #2 August 2020. Both bottles are black bodied, #1 had no head at all and #2 had a small, fast fading one. Both has strong, nicer aroma of dark malt, smooth roasted, chocolate, dry fruit and warming alcohol. The taste is much the same, the aging has made this beers really smooth with sweet, mild roasted malt, chocolate, dry fruit, some wood and lots of warming alcohol. The difference as far as I have understood is cherry and Bourbon barrel for #1 and blackberries and Jamaica rum barrel for #2. The difference from the cherry and blackberries is rather small, the aging seems to make them both taste a bit like dry fruit, but the cherry is actually still reckonable. The biggest different in taste for me is the alcohol from the barrel, the Bourbon seems to be a tad more elegant and complex as the rum tends to have a more general alcoholic sting. Both of them are great beer, but at least for the aging versions I find #1 a little bit better.

250ml bottle wrapped in paper bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Dark bubbles on the surface of a near-black coloured body. Minimal lacing. Delicate aromas of dark chocolate, liquorice, and berries with moderate alcohol notes. Well blended taste character of chocolate, oak vanilla, and liquorice nicely softened by restrained brett and mid-tart berries. Long-lived and warming ending. Full bodied. Sits just right. Looking forward to cuvee #2. (Tromsø 28.04.2018).

Bottle, at Sandar. It’s a more or less black beer, oily and close to headless. Not much curtains. The aroma is quite boozy, with roasted malts, bonfire notes, dried fruits, some licorice and a touch of malty booze. It’s full bodied indeed, smooth and warming, sure not on the dry side. Roasted malts, licorice, soy sauce, toffee and a touch of dark dried fruits in the flavor. Some nice bitterness too. Pretty intense this one, but sure a fine brew. 161028
