Our latest edition to the Brutal Brewing family is a pale amber lager that honors Dia de Muertos, otherwise known as the Day of the Dead for those of us living north of Mexico way, in a unique, bottom-fermented kind of way. The exact brewing technique would take a precious week out of your life to fully observe, and it’s kind of a big secret, so you’ll just have to trust us that the extra effort we put into making Dia de los Muertos is well worth it. Or, better yet, ask for a mug and decide for yourself.
With strong, clear hints of grapefruit and citrus that are the essence of American Cascade and Centennial Zither hops, Dia de los Muertos is accentuated by Magnum and German Perle hops that contribute to a markedly bitter, yet distinctively satisfying finish. And we haven’t even begun to tell you what the Pilsner, Dark Caramel, Crystal and Melanoidin malts add to the mix because, well, life’s short and this description’s already getting too long.
In other words, (and an attempt to bridge cultures and transport positive vibes from the living to the dead) Dia de los Muertos is a mucho good, numero uno brew that you shouldn’t wait until it’s too late to enjoy.

Draught@SBWF2013. Amber colour with a mediumsized creamy beige head. Aroma is fruity, floral, some toasted malts as well as some caramel/toffee notes. Flavour is rather similar, ending in a quite big herbal and bitter way.

Fra cask(!) på Bishops Arms Sundsvall 30 Okt 13. Mørk gylden. Lavt skum. God karamellaroma. Smaken er syrlig frukt. Appelsin & sitron. Blir tørr etter hvert. Bra øl. Betimelig å ha dette på kran rundt allehelgensaften. Drukket i ekstra hyggelig selskap av Maud & Yvonne som pent måtte finne seg i å bli påspandert en runde øl etterpå.

(Draught at Ardbeg Embassy, Stockholm, 14 Sep 2013) Reddish amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of blood orange, caramel, black-currant and pink grapefruit. Malty, fruity taste with blood orange, grapefruit, caramel, black-currant, toasty malt and a fresh spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and fresh, with quite an impressive hop character. Didn’t really expect this from Spendrups, but this one was quite nice.
