The next instalment in our "Staring At" series sees two new hops making their debut at Lost Pier. Introducing Strata and BRU-1, two American big hitters: the former packing a zesty punch laced with passionfruit and the latter hitting a homerun with pineapple and green tropical fruit. The malt base has been kept to a super-soft, pale straw colour, with all the mouthfeel coming from 3 oat types. Too risky to stare at, this is one you just go on and taste . . .

Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Gentle exotic fruits built upon a smooth creamy oat foundation. Picking up notes of passion fruit, mango, citrus, and pineapple. Delicate bittersweetish flavour, body is medium. Very easy and fruity, love the creamy malt bill.

Can sourced from Beerdome and shared at home - New brewery ✅ pours golden yellow with a white head. Sweet fruity with prominent pineapple powered by the BRU-1, further strata tropical fruity notes with passion fruit and some citrus pink grapefruit, oat laden sweet malty backbone, piney light bitter hoppy close. Drinks good, nice stuff.

440ml can. Hazy, yellow-ish, bright golden colour with average to huge, thick, creamy, moderately to mostly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Grassy, piney, tropical fruity and slightly zesty, citrusy, hoppy aroma, hints of passion fruit, mango, dragon fruit, some lime zest, a touch of fresh hay, unripe tropical fruit, whiffs of yellow stone fruit, a minimally cheesy touch of durian. Taste is sweet-ish, oaty and wheaty malty, minimally sugary, rather unspecific, tropical fruity, hoppy, minimally citrusy, not overly explicit hints of mango, passion fruit, guava, papaya, dragon fruit, overripe kiwi fruit. Creamy texture, smooth and soft, minimally cloying palate, medium, soft carbonation. Quite rich, homogeneous, an amalgamation of unspecific tropical fruity flavours, some nice, dirty, grassy aspects in the nose, well crafted - superb!
