Speights Pilsner is based on a 1955 Speights Brewey recipe. With such a classic Czech lager style, the challenge is to achieve flavour balance between characterful malts and the strong hop content.Nelson Sauvin and New Zealand Saaz hops are added at boil's end for a fresher fruiter aroma. The biscuity residual sweetness of Munich malt provides the balance, leaving a clean finish.

Draft. A golden beer with a thin lazing white head. The aroma has notes of malt as well as lighter notes of grain and hay. The flavor is sweet with notes of matl and straw, leading to a lightly bitter finish.

Half pint on tap served far too cold at The Southerner, Temple, London. Shining golden body with a few white patches on the top. Great laceworks on the glass. Hoppy aroma. Refreshing hoppy taste with dry, earthy malts behind. Clean palate. Much more hops in this one compared to what they call pilsener in Norway. With a better serving temperature this one could have been even more flavoursome (01.05.2008).

(On tap) Clear, golden with an off-white head that leaves some laces. Rather neutral aroma - a whiff of malt perhaps. Medium body with a good, clean, malt base, some flowery notes and a fairly solid bitterness. A very clean and distinct Bohemian style pilsener SO far away from the traditional, sticky NZ lager. 250108

On tap at Speight’s bar, Temple. Pale gold, lasting off white head. Hop is quite distinctive. Interesting nettley hop. OK in mouth, bit of sherbert. Hop is quite biting. Good beer. Nettle/cat’s pee from the sauvin hops. Cool.
