On a rainy fall day in 2009, my five year old daughter Zoe and I were wandering the streets of Bar Harbor and stumbled across the Whale Museum. Zoe loved it. It put a smile on her face. Hopefully our ale will do the same for you. Cheers!
Flavor Profile: Aromas of pine and raisin. Notes of citrus, black current, cherry, and fig with a malty backbone of toasted bread, dark chocolate, and caramel.
Hops: Simcoe, Centennial, Columbus

Bottle shared at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Murky amber-brown with a beige head. Aroma of malt and piney hops, somewhat stale. Flavor has some sweetish malt, a bit of caramel, light fruitiness and piney hops, a bit stale, with some bitterness. Medium-bodied. Not fresh enough. 5/3/6/3/12=2.9

16.9 oz bottle purchased at Pinocchio’s Beer Garden in Media, Pennsylvania. 072313 31 stamped on the label. The pour is a slightly hazed brown copper with a well formed one inch light khaki head. The aroma is fresh pine, herbal and grass hops, along with a bright fresh cracker malt. Bit of citrus, bit of roast. The taste is the roast, the cracker malt, then moves to the grassy element of the hops. Very dry finish. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation, and the bone dry grass and malt finish. Nice stuff.

Bottle. Pours a fairly deep medium brown with a big sudsy tan head and aromas of resin and blue spruce. Flavor is heavy with spruce tips and caramel/toffee. There is a touch of alcoholic warmth here, but mouthfeel is still thin and hop driven.

On tap @ Blind Tiger House. Was not expecting a almost brown looking, well let's call it a mild bronze colored deep blurry thing with a medium sized kinda dark beige top. On the nose this is definitely not to extreme. Soft hoppy, some candied red apples, some fruity sweetness and traces of hops. Leaving it alone for a while opens it more up. Nice. Oh, it's tasty alright. Quite malty at first then it's well balanced but lots of grassy dry hops. It has a near cloudy - really comfortable mouthfeel this. It's somehow thick and creamy still light and almost fluffy. More red apples and a good amount of bitterness. Yeah, again, these beers from Maine are really impressive. 12.06.2013

Refrigerated half liter brown bottle, bottled February 20, 2013, poured into an English pint glass. Pours translucent dark amber with big off-white head. Some lacing, medium body, some carbonation, and nice hop aroma. Taste is caramel malt, piny hops, and bitter hop finish. Probably the best amber ale I have had.

From a 50 cl bottle shared at home. Pours a dark brown with a thick ecru head. Rhubarb in the nose. Grassy flavor. Bitter finish.

Bottle split at Tony’s, from the Beer Shop E Longmeadow, 19/05/13. Opaque dark amber with a good sized frothy beige head. Nose is caramel malt, hops, pine, bitter orange - Cointreau esque. Taste comprises punchy hop bitterness, caramel malt, good pine bite, bitter grapefruit, grass. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish with aggressive hop bitterness. Tasty stuff - of only all ’ambers’ were like this !

Bottle via trade. Murky red-orange-brown body, thick to medium clumping head. Rindy nose, mostly grapefruit, with caramels and toast. Dense and layered. Lightish biscuity, toasty body with abundant hops. Soft yet rich.

A dark clear reddish amber with a thick frothy mocha head. In aroma, a pungent vinous malt with catty floral hops, kiwi tropical fruits, maple fudge. In mouth, a sweet roasted malt with dark fruits, molasses, good floral hops, alcohol warmth, well made.

Bottle thanks to James! Pours a clear deep amber with a brown head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma has a nice light fresh pine note with some deep grains backing and a hint of grass. Flavor starts with more grass and deep grains and has just a bit of bitter pine in the finish.
