Different Spaghetti Western batches aged for six months in Grappa barrels. Armoa is rich and intense, recalling grape, coffee liquor and black cherries. Mouth is dry, body is light with a slight winey acidity.

330 ml bottle into snifter; bottled on 3/26/2017, best before 12/25/2030. Labeled at 9.7%. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy dark khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, toasted oak, raisin, date, red grape, and dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, char, tobacco, vanilla, and roast/smoke/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa, coffee, and grappa barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, toasted oak, raisin, date, red grape, and dark bread; with lighter notes of smoke, char, tobacco, vanilla, and roast/smoke/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate roast/char bitterness and light oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, toasted oak, dark fruit, dark bread, smoke, char, tobacco, vanilla, and roast/smoke/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa, coffee, and grappa barrel flavors; with a great roast/charred bitter/sweet balance; and zero acrid/astringent roast flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from roast/char bitterness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/silky, fairly sticky/chalky, and lightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 9.7%, with zero barrel booziness. Overall this is a fantastic imperial stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, cocoa, coffee, and grappa barrel flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the ABV. Very rich and complex with big cocoa nib/coffee flavors, and nice Grappa barrel presence; without any booze. Not as intense on the barrel as I expected for 6 months aged, but still nice amounts. A highly enjoyable offering.

0,33l bottle at home bought from Beers’n’more Zurich. BB 30.12.2022. 11.1% ABV. black color, medium big coffee colored head. smells earthy, joghurty, spices, cocoa, tiramisu, nutty, marzipan, bit weird but overall nice smell. full body, medium carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes earthy, peat, the grappa is there, soapy, some ash, bit milky, rubbery, bit boozy, peppery, light fruits. finishes bit boozy and earthy bitter with notes of peat, ash and some rubbery notes. loved the regular edition, this one is rather weird and messy. also not a fan of grappa, so could be related. also rather bubbly for an imp stout. expected quite a bit more, just drinkable.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Pitch black, dark espresso head. Smells of coffee mostly, some tonka or cinnamon notes. Very little barrel spirit, if any, maybe some drying winey notes. The first sip brings quite a sharp, acid carbonation. The taste follows the aroma, medium roast, moderate coffee, sweetish velvety tonka or cinnamon spice. The finish is lightly bitter, with a pleasant spirit heat. Very nice.

On tap @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma beige media, discretamente persistente. Al naso note di caffè, alcol, grappa, cioccolato fondente. In bocca è dolce all'attacco con finale amaro e alcolico. Corpo pieno, carbonazione media. Non male, ma forse le preferisco la versione base.

Tap at Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fa (Rome-Italy). Deep black pour, brownish and long-lasting foam. Nose offers vanilla root, barriere grappa with wood prevailing on the spirit, hints of tobacco and some hidden dates. Mouth is a bit watery, easier than you expect considering the complex aroma. It feels like drinking grappa with ice, the finish is a bit chili.

Draft. A black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma has notes of coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, grappa, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of iodine, roasted malt, lots of alcohol, and grappa, as well as some blueberries, and chocolate, leading to a dry roasted and alcoholic finish.
