Put to the people’s choice, we asked you what flavour combination you'd like to see in an updated version of our Classic range porter. With a landslide victory, Britain’s love of biscuits prevailed, and the second iteration of Northern Star is a decadent chocolate, caramel and biscuit porter.

Appearance is very dark, with a 1-finger light brown foamy head. Aroma is chocolate, lots of toffee and caramel, coffee, biscuity malt, hop hints. Taste is chocolate, dark fruit, blackberry, coffee, caramel biscuit, sweet malty fruit, nice, maybe a little thin.

Keg @ Northern Monk Refectory, Manchester. Very dark brew. Its chocolate is very evident and dominant in both aroma and taste.

440ml can, Brethren #003, bought at Vinmonopolet City Nord. Pitch black body, remaining beige head leaving crocheted lacing behind. Prominent on aroma, cocoa-caramel, vanilla. Sweet malt-forward taste containing moments of nuts, caramel, biscuit, and chocolate. Sweet choco-caramel end. A bit diluted on the swallow. Okay, just a bit unvaried and rather sweet. Can from Systembolaget. Aroma is a bit quiet. Viscous black apperance. Taste is interesting. You can definitely feel the caramel even if you cant taste it but you do get the sweet taste coming through. You can pick up all the three ingrediants when you know they are in there. It's a nice stout and I appreciate the abv. Not up there with the Dark star creme brulee imo but then again it is a porter and not a stout. didnt realise that until i finished this rating, which makes it all the more impressive imo.

330ml can. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt, big caramel, light chocolate. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a smooth, rich, slightly oily, sweet chocolate caramel, liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
