Put to the people’s choice, we asked you what flavour combination you'd like to see in an updated version of our Classic range porter. With a landslide victory, Britain’s love of biscuits prevailed, and the second iteration of Northern Star is a decadent chocolate, caramel and biscuit porter.

Panda at home, thanks to Fergus, 12/06/21. Black with a decent tan head. Nose is chocolate, sweet malts, light roast, hint of red berry fruits, chocolate caramel biscuit. Taste comprises chocolate biscuit, dark malts, roasted bite, jammy berries, caramel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent flavoursome porter ... drinks light and airy.

Creamy tan head stayed on a dark brown body. Caramel, biscuit & toffee aroma. Medium bodied, soft over the tongue with a lighter clean back. Chocolate, caramel, biscuit & toffee tastes. Just what it says on the tin! Good one.

440ml can from Tesco - Murky brown to black body, solid lacing top. Nose is dusty chocolate, sweet caramelised sugar and some digestive bits. Taste is a liquid version of those Cadbury Chocolate Caramel biscuits, big sweet hit with a little savoury leveller at the end.

Can from HavnensVin&Tobak. Pours opaque black with large light brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, coconut, caramel, fudge and hints of liquorice and soy sauce. Taste is medium sweet, light to medium bitter, faint acidic and light salty. Body is oily with fizzy carbonation. Finish is long and balanced sweet and bitter with notes of salty caramel, salty liquorice, fudge, vanilla, (roasted) coconut and hints of Frensh press coffee and soy sauce. A bit too fizzy for my taste but very rich and well balanced. I would love if it were more smooth and creamy (but that would make it a stout, right?)

Can from Morrisons in Watford, Herts. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a healthy beige head on top which last throughout. Roasty, malty, chocolate, biscuity, caramel aroma, tastes quite similar but also rather sweet and light. Pleasant enough porter.

330ml can - Pours almost black in colour with an average sized beige head that slowly settled. A sweetish aroma, marshmallow, sweet creamy caramel, chocolate biscuits and vanilla. A sweetish taste, chocolate biscuits, sweet marshmallows, vanilla, caramel and cocoa powder flavours, some ashy hints in a light dryish finish. Okay and a bit of fun.
