Half liter bottle pours out clear gold with copper hues and thin white head. The mild aroma emits harmless levels of chunky cinnamon apple sauce, a thin layer of caramel and a bit of boozy heat. The taste feels a touch thin to start and delivers a mix of apple sweetness, a mild twang of yeasty tartness and then subtle caramel notes. Midway and to the finish some prune and faint cherry notes join in as well as a dash of booziness. Decent brew for what it is or isn’t.

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours orange gold with a foamy white head. Lots of malt aroma with some clean citrus/grass accompaniment. Med body at least. Flavor is a little bready, corny, sweetish, with not all that much hop. No real heat, but the overall impression suggests near to malt liquor. Other than that impression this is pretty much decent beer. Later thought: With some time and olfactory fatigue, this beer actually gets better than decent and is quite drinkable. Up overall from 14 to 15

Half Liter bottle. $2.50 @ Binny’s. Yes, this is what I’m drinking after taking care of Santa’s visit. You know the fly-by-night video labels that rush out rip-off versions of popular Disney animated features so they’re in the stores before the home video release? Movies like "Ratatoing" or "Little Cars?" It seems this label wants to rip off Ridgeway’s "Bad Elf" and "Santa’s Butt." And yet I bought it.
Okay, pours a nice orange yellow in my stem, with a thin bit of foam atop. Some heavy malt smell, but also the telltale fusel of cheap malt liquor. Not sure what this has that would qualify it as a doppelbock. Taste not anywhere in the bock category, but you know what? It’s almost usable as a cheap strong Eastern Bloc beer. Alcoholic with no hop to speak of, but it will help me get to bed so Santa can finally visit our house. And a merry Christmas to all…
