Sold as Mr George’s Ruby Porter in the US due to trademark issues. A dark ruby beer with a rich flavour and spicy finish. The hop grist adds a hint of citrus to complement the roasted malt character. Dark, Delicious and Delectable.

30th March 2008 Smooth dark beer - not too dry. Lots of malt but reasonably well balanced by a hint of hops. Very drinkable.

Bottle from Morrisons. Very dark, reddish-brown colour with a slight, off-white head. Sweet caramel and chocolate aroma, with some fruit in the background. Flavour had more sweetness, dried fruit, a touch of yeast character and some roasted malts, with a lightly dry finish. Full of character and enjoyable.

Dark brown colour, tan head. Aroma of sweet roasted malts. Flavour has lots of caramel malts, fruits, some chocolate. Dry finish. Don’t know why this is listed as a porter.

Bottle, Morrisons, West Kirby. Very dark brown, virtually black colour with a red tinge and a medium sized tan head. Aroma was dark fruit and choccy malt with the flavour having a slight sweetness and similar elements. Quite lively carbonation. Enjoyed this.

Bottle. Pours a clear, reddish brown with a nice, beige head. The aroma is nice and chocolatey with coffee as well, but it sort of lacks something. The same goes for the flavor, there’s coffee and chocolate, and a little hoppy bitterness, but still there’s missing something. In addition, there’s a touch of vegetables that I didn’t think too much of. Medium body, sweetish and dry. A quite nice beer, but as mentioned, it lacks something. (080215)
