Cask at Batemans Visitor Center and Pub, Wainfleet, Lincs. Pours dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of malt, hop, light chocolate, biscuit and fruit. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. A solid and enjoyable mid-strength bitter though possibly not what it once was, recall having it before and enjoying it more.

Cask at the Bankers Draft (JDW), Bedford. Copper colour with a light drizzle of off-whitish head. The carbonation is strong with this one. Floral and toffee aroma, mild but pleasant enough. Sweet malty taste with a hit of caramel, but there’s some artificial-tasting astringency at the end of the sip. Toffee apple in the aftertaste. Nice full palate for a beer of this strength. Ok.
