Tasting Notes
Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, bold upfront and rich offering of a famous beer style. Aged with French Oak, this beer not only displays coffee and mocha charters but also some sweet and spicy notes. A tannin like finish and an oak induced mellow bitterness makes it a serious stout. Moa Imperial Stout is best served just below room temperature in a tulip glass.

Bottle sample at a tasting at troubles’s place. Thanks Tom L. Black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roast, wood, some dark fruits, a bit of alcohol. Great sweet flavor, with chocolate, roast, wood, some dark fruits, and a bitter finish. Full-bodied. Really good.

375 ml bottle into snifter, best before 3/18/2016. Pours dense pitch black color with a thin tan head, that reduces to a spotty lace cap/ring that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, tannic red wine, oak, light smoke/char, and roast/oaky earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of deep roasted malt and moderate wine barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, oak, light tannic red wine, and roast/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Fair amount of roast/char bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, light smoke/char, oak, and roast/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance, complexity, and robustness of deep roasted malt and light-moderate wine barrel flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a nice creamy and lightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent wine barrel aged imperial stout. All around great complexity, balance, and robustness of deep roasted malt and light-moderate wine barrel flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

This beer pours nearly black with some cola color around the edges. Thin white head that dissipates quickly to a sparse outer ring, and spotty lacing. Aroma of malt, dark fruit and wood. Full-bodied with flavors of roast malt, coffee and subtle vinous oak. The finish is roasty with a malt and coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Pours pretty much black with a foam head that reduces to a thin layer quite soon. Aroma has coffee, roast malt - and is also a bit fruitily vinous -maybe because the bottle has aged a bit. Taste has bitter chocolate, dark fruits, a bit of booze. Hops attacking as well but actually not so prominent (any more?). Very potent bitter chocolate indeed. Cocoa nibs but not very dry. Good and well made imperial stout, enjoying this one a lot.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with medium retention recedes to nothing. Dark chocolate and sour fruit aromas. Thick with dark chocolate and dark dusty grape upfront turning to hot grape in the lasting finish.

Bottle [thanks to mista] @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized beige to light brown head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, lightly a touch of wine, a touch of roast but only slightly. Taste malts, lightly roast again and also a hint of wine but not a lot, bitter, slightly alcohol, slightly coffee. Lingering lightly roasty bitterness, a bit thin texture for a 10+ ABV Imperial Stout, decent body, medium carbonation. Pleasant, but nothing incredible.

Bottle @home shared by benzai. Pitch black colour with a small to medium sized beige head. Smells roasty, tar, coffee, hint of chocolate. Tastes some cork, roasty, coffee, chocolate, hint of red wine but it’s very feint, slightly sweetish and slightly grape peel. Medium to full body, soft carbo.

Bottle. A- Wine, slightly sweet, dark fruits, coffee, cocoa, roasted, malty. A- Black color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Wine, tannins, slightly sweet, dark fruits, coffee, chocolate, malty, dry. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, semi dry finish. O- Decent, but I thought the wine barrel aging was a little on the strong side. I have concluded that bourbon aging is better than wine aging. Rich and complex, even a wine drinker might convert over to beer with this brew.
