Tasting Notes
Moa Imperial Stout is a very strong, bold upfront and rich offering of a famous beer style. Aged with French Oak, this beer not only displays coffee and mocha charters but also some sweet and spicy notes. A tannin like finish and an oak induced mellow bitterness makes it a serious stout. Moa Imperial Stout is best served just below room temperature in a tulip glass.

500ml bottle. It's been in my beer fridge for a while, so it probably has five years of age on it. Poured almost black in colour with a short-lived, frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, oak and boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet and liqourice bitter, with a smoky, roasty, light chocolate, light dry coffee, liqourice, dry oaky, boozy alcohol bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottle from Countdown outside Christchurch airport, at hotel in Queenstown. Black pour with light tan head. Very straightforward big stout. Bitter roasted coffee and chocolate. Dry-ish. Palate isn’t too thick. Wouldn’t get again.

Bottle shared in Wanaka lake view campground. Black with dark beige head. Chocolate, red wine, thick sweet toffee malts, blackberries, light black currants too, bitter grassy hops, earthy, light soy sauce (the one with palm sugar), mocca. Quite sweet with nice balancing bitterness. Full bodied wit creamy feel. Quite nice, especially considering this costs the same as some random pale ale.

Keg at Moa Tiki, Singapore. Black with rich beige head. Woody nose with licorice and coffee. Rather dry with full body and dense, packed mouthfeel. Salmiak and espresso, some dark bitter chocolate. Really bitter finish. Staying dry and fairly elegant despite massive flavours.

A black beer, a head is medium and beige. Aroma has liquorice, sweet and toffeeish maltyness, some chocolate and vanilla, hint of alcohol from barrel. Taste has liquorice, coffee, roastiness, storng bitterness that's nicely drying the sweetness. Almost full bodied, smooth. Good beer but more could be expected from the IS.

500ml bottle thanks to Sean. Pours out dark brown topped with a tan head. Nose is good not like the wine barrel version that was a total mess roast malts coffee. Taste is more of the roast malts nice coffee and chocolate.

500ml bottle. Pours black. Smoke, oak, vanilla, cherry, raspberry, dates, touch of spice. Medium body with heavy carbonation. Nice complex stout with plenty of character from the oak. Really nice and at a crazy low price. Normally I wouldn’t mention things like that, but this bottle cost me $6!!!

From a 500ml bottle on 19/2/2017 (shared by Butz with thanks). Pours close to black with a medium to big head. The nose features chocolate, basement and booze notes. Flavour wise, it starts out with sweet chocolate, some caramel and lots of roast/burnt malt, and some oak, which is followed b a distinct bitter/sour finish, which lingers in the mouth. The texture is creamy and the carbonation moderate. Not too dusty, but just a touch harsh at the back to really hit the spot..

On tap at The Institution, Christchurch. Black as.....bro. Fluffy tan head. Good lacing. Chocolate malt nose. Velvet mouthfeel. Dark fruit, berries, dark chocolate, caramel, cookie dough....a lot of good stuff. Really interesting and serious late-night sipping stuff.
