Mocha is a coffee and chocolate stout sensation. It’s brewed with genuine Arabica coffee, fine Belgian chocolate and locally grown, roasted barley malt. Rich, enticing and well rounded, the coffee and cocoa notes are certain to give your nose and tastebuds a welcome wake-up call.

50 cl bottle as ”Mark & Spencer Lincolnshire Mocha Beer” @ lusikka, BBE 09/2013
Aroma has cocoa, coffee, vanilla and lots of artifical and sweet essences. Flavour has lots of vanilla, some wet wood and coffee notes. Too harsh and watery, but not bad anyway. I really like the vanilla aromas in the aroma, but it just isn’t enough.

500ml bottle. Clear dark brown colour, small to average, frothy, diminishing, beige head. Minimally artificial aroma with notes of milk chocolate, mocha, cocoa. Taste is moderately sweet with artificial mocha and milk chocolate notes. The mocha taste is well captured, but overall a bit too sweet and artificial.

500ml bottle - deep ruby body, faint white head. Big nose of dark chocolate, bit of vanilla, malty notes there too. A bit thin on the body, but a decent mellow chocolate taste to carry it through. Not bad, if only it had a bit of body.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Dark brown pour with a tan head. Coffee, dark chocolate and raisin aroma. Light chocolate and coffee flavour. Sweet. Reasonably pleasant. Long chocolate linger.

Bottle on train poured into plastic glass - 30/09/12. Dark mahogony brown with a decent coffee head. Roast malts on the nose, cheap smelling milk chocolate like the eastern european stuff you had as a kid in the 80’s! Barley, trace of coffee and a little smoke. Taste is a little pasticy, cheap chocolate once more, grain, minerals, not much coffee doing, faint hint. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, smooth finish with a little sourness. The 6% alcohol is well disguised. Not great, seemingly done on the cheap, goes to show you how it really is worth paying big bucks for well done coffee/chocolate beers!

A dark beer with a brownish head. An excellent coffee aroma and then a strong (but not overpowering) flavour of coffee and chocolate that’s surprisingly light. By far the best of the Sainsbury’s British Beer Hunt that I’ve tried so far. UPDATE: I’ve never had this since it was in the beer hunt and enjoyed it as much. I don’t know whether the beer itself has been changed or what but it just doesn’t seem as distinct since then and it seems more lacking in body than I first thought too, which is a shame. I’ve had it on tap since and it was superb but either the bottled version has changed for the worse, I misjudged it or... I don’t know. It’s still nice but it just doesn’t seem as special (bottled) as I first thought.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Deep mahogany with no head. Rich, sweet chocolate fondant, with some coffee and a dryish finish. Ok, if not particularly memorable.

50cl bottle from the Sainsbury’s Beer Hunt range. A cola-brown pour with a rapidly vanishing beige head; chocolate milkshake aroma; rather thin and watery, but with a good coffee and chocolate taste; rounded off with some chocolate fudge; ther’s a hint of dryness and bitterness in there, but it doesn’t really get out.
