Dark as the Northumbrian night sky and just as captivating. Smooth, rich and moreish. Just how a classic stout should be.

Bottle from Northumbrian Gifts. Pours near black with small beige head. Quite a meaty stout aroma, plenty of dark malts, coffee, hint of fruit, liquorice. Taste of roasted malt to the fore with chocolate, coffee, liquorice, hint of dark fruit, some spicy and herbal bitter hop. Just enough sweetness to balance. Medium bodied, semi-dry. Very good.

500ml bottle bought as part of a delivery from Northumbrian Gifts and drunk at home. Dark brown, only a little bit translucent, with a ring of off-white/beige head. Chocolate, coal, coffee grounds in the aroma. Tastes quite sweet with a touch of caramel, maybe some blackberry. Medium body, heavy on the carbonation. Quite something.

Medium sweetness and bitterness. Medium body, slight watery texture, average too soft carbonation. Enjoyable.
