A rich ruby coloured Belgian-style dubbel brewed using specialist yeast and malts then matured in red wine barrels underneath the Abbey. Initially fruity, with distinctive notes of raisin and plum followed by an intensely rich oaked wine flavour. Punctuated throughout with a cidery sharpness.

Bottle from Mitchells Wines - Mucky murky body, no head. Nose is vinous, deep fruits. Taste has a bit of banana and clove thing going on with a red wine finish. Boozy warmth. Not sure what this offers.

tried at the Strugglers Inn, Lincoln. Hazy ruby colour with an off white head. Aroma, fruit, and yeasty. Taste is red wine and woody. Nice, but not as complex as a Belgian Dubbel.

Bottle. Welbeck Abbey farm shop. Murky, light brown. No head. Smells like a dubbel. Nice, tangy fruit. Sugary malts. Cake mix. Soft, Belgian yeastiness. Taste is fruity, malty sweet. Minimal bitterness. Has a bit of a saline, savoury thing going on. Smooth, soft mouthfeel. Some dryness on the finish. Soft sweetness throughout. Other than it looks awful, and is a bit savoury, it’s a pretty drinkable dubbel.
