Sample (thanks fonefan!). Black colour, small off-white head. Aroma is liquorice, toffee, mild alcohol, dried fruits and some berryish tones. Flavour is fruity, liquorice, alcohol and some spiciness with fudge and some sweet sugary tones. Bigtime cherries in the finish.

Served a tad too warm Layered head from brown- to russet cream. Pitch-black beer. Sharpish, intense burnt/roasted stout nose with an apt liqueurish aroma, very liquorice-intoned. Kirsch, liqueur, Mon Chéri pralines, maraschino cherries. Black chocolate, but still pretty sweet. Full bodied, viscous, oily, fiery. It's as expected, sweet, but the temperature at which it was served, stressed its more negative aspects, rather than the aromatic ones.

21/1/2023. Can shared at the first ITFC 2023 beer share. From Tesco, Martlesham. Pours black with a small creamy/frothy tan coloured head. Aroma of dark cherries, chocolate, black forest gateau, caramel, nutty edge. Medium sweetness, light bitterness and sour notes. Medium body, oily and sticky, soft carbonation. Rich cherry chocolate finish. Very nice.

Can. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy dark an head. Clear aroma of, well, Schwarzwalder Torte: cherries, biscuit, malt, lactose, and yeast. Sweet and sour flavour of cherries, malt, biscuit, yeast and marshmallow, with lactic touches. Dry and sweet aftertaste with notes of a perfect dessert. Oh, yummy gods, don't ever take me away from here!

Can, 11.0%. Marshmallow aroma, light chocolate, port, cherry. Black colour. Small fizzy dark brown head. The flavour is very sweet with some acid to balance. Good cherry note. Cloying. Creamy mouthfeel. Late cloying sweetness with lots of acid and cherry. Too sweet for me, but that was to be expected. Should come in smaller cans.
