One of the brewery's flagship beers, launched in 1986 in the typical lacquered white bottles and named after the dragon statue on top of the Ghent belfry tower.

Bij een dergelijk imposant symbool dat al meer dan 6 eeuwen standhoudt, hoort een al minstens even indrukwekkend bier. Zoals de draak aan de top van de stad prijkt, behoort Gulden Draak al jaren tot de wereldtop van de bieren. Het is een donkere tripel, wat het op zich al een uitzonderlijk bier maakt, maar de complexe smaak met toetsen van caramel, gebrande mout en koffie maakt het uniek. Kortom, het bier is zijn naam waardig.
Voor de nagisting wordt gebruik gemaakt van een wijngist die bepalend is voor de weergaloze smaak en die zorgt voor de langdurige smaakevolutie (= levend bier). Hoe ouder het bier wordt, hoe meer aroma het krijgt en hoe voller de smaak en de kleur worden. Het is dus zeker de moeite waard om enkele grote flessen bij te houden en te laten rijpen gedurende vele jaren.
Kleur: robijnrood, donker
Alcoholvolume: 10,5% - 23° Plato
Aroma: zoet, licht gebrande mout en koffie
Smaak: zeer vol mondgevoel met toetsen van chocolade, karamel
Afdronk: bitterzoet en lang
Ideale schenktemperatuur: tussen 8° en 12° Celsius
Gulden Draak laat zich makkelijk drinken als aperitief, dessert of gewoon als u even tijd maakt om te genieten. Deze “gerstewijn” harmonieert uitstekend bij en in stoofpotjes en bij een Gentse stoverij in het bijzonder. Het geeft ook een meerwaarde aan sauzen bij rood vlees zoals een bordelaise en is ook uitermate geschikt als dessertbier, vooral bij donkere chocolade.

0,33 l bottle. Pours orange brown with a finger of light tan head. Aroma of ripe banana, dried fruit, floral and of course malty, yeasty and quite a lot of brown sugar. Some alcohol is present. Flavor follows aroma. Taste is very sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium to full, texture creamy and carbonation average. Finish is long, heavy fruity sweetness is slowly replaced by mellow bitterness. Alcohol is present, more pronounced with temperature, but not annoying. Complex beer, maybe a tad too sweet for me.

Tap at Glens bar Jerusalem. Came in a pint which obviously got me slaughtered. A very very smooth beer for something that is almost 11% with a nice balance of sweet and bitter. V. good. (16/2/18) -------- Tap at Bishops Arms Östersund. 3.7 to 3.6. It is a good beer but it is just a wee bit too sweet fo rme

0,33l bottle at home courtesy of a friend, big thanks. BB 10.10.2019. copper hazy color, rather big off-white / yellowish head. smells belgian yeasty, caramel, ripe fruits, spices, nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes earthy, spices, some sweetness, ripe fruits, belgian yeasty, lightly boozy, bit on the chewy side. finishes lightly boozy with notes of belgian yeast, earth and some ripe fruits. good stuff overall. pleasantly surprised.

Schönes Fläschchen, optisch dunkles Rotbraun, kein Schaum, feine Carbo. In der Nase sehr warm, dunkle Beeren, Kirsche. Im Trunk entfaltet sich die Geschmacksexplosion. Beeren, Holzfass, Schokolade, Kirsch, Pflaumenrum-Kompott. Trockener Abgang. Super Dessertbier!

bought 2 bottles of this stuff at Wilbur's in Ft. Collins, Colorado.
Pours so darned beautifully ending up a dark gold in my Chimay glass. Nice head that lingers with very nice lacing around the glass.
The smell is a superb apple, reminiscent of my favourite soda..Jones Green Apple. I couldn't wait to dive right in. ;^)
The taste is a plethora of fruity flavours that are dominated by apple but yet aren't.(if you catch my meaning)
At 10% abv, I want to just sip and enjoy but the drinkabilty of this brew has to be experienced to be appreciated. This is, for me, a truly world class experience in Triples and I'll certainly buy it again!
