The base for this beer is an American/Belgian hybrid Imperial Amber, taking inspiration from our popular collaboration with Heretic Brewing, Heretic’s Revenge. The high proportion of crystal malt gives a deep fruit flavor that pairs well with our house Belgian yeast, and we brewed it in the same poly-gyle style for extra body and mouthfeel. Strawberry puree was used for the fruit contribution, further enhancing the malt sweetness while also providing a balancing acidity. Smoked malt makes up 5% of the recipe and plays a very background role that simply assists in accenting the sweet character of the fruit flavors. This complex beer can be enjoyed fresh when its fruit flavors are strongest or aged to mellow and develop a more rich and rounded character.

Very murky brown color. Massive big sweet strawberries and Belgian yeast in the nose. Caramel, dried strawberries, some toffee notes. Very thick full bodied,
Malty palate. The strawberries really shine. Interesting

Finally cracking this KBC Shugyoku 11% Imperial Belgian Red Deep opaque ruddy orange color with a slow beige gushed by foam on opening. Malty with tangy strawberry jam in the aroma. Very full bodied which considering the ABVis no surprise. I’d forgotten this was made with strawberries but they really come through. At times you get a metallic tang in the finish but generally it’s malty sweet, Belgian sour then jammy strawberry. All in all an interesting variation in the style.

Bottle from the brewery. Fruity nose, cherry, citrus, apple, chocolate, toasted malts, strawberry, spicy Belgian yeast. Jut a touch of smoke too. Nothing like a quad or dubbel, much more fruity, spicy, hoppy. Hazy reddish brown with a low head. Very fruity flavor with toasty malt, chocolate and caramel, earthy, with a bitter finish. Cider notes. Strawberry comes though quite forcefully and nicely. SMoke is small but adds something. Full body but not at all heavy. Quite sweet abut also a bit tart. Very interesting. Not what I expected at all, and quite unique. Tasty stuff.

Strawberry sweetness, but if Belgian maltiness too. Can’t taste the alcohol at all which is a bit of a worry. Definitely feels Belgian but there’s a bit of caramel there too.
