Bottled (from De Biertonne). Hazy yellowish golden colour, small white head. Aroma is fruity, floral, some toffeeish and mild alcohol tones. Quite straight forward. Flavour is fruity, floral, some nectary and mild wooden dry elements with a slight spicy yeastiness into it too. Smooth. Not too bad Tripel actually.

33cl bottle from De Bier Tempel beer store in Brussels. F: big, white, long lasting. C: gold, hazy with yeasty flakes. A: malty, banana, honey, spicy, floral, coriander, peach, pears. T: full malty base, banana, herbal, spicy, coriander, floral, pears, decent bitterness, medium carbonation, ok for the style, enjoyable beer.

Draught @ the brewpub Very good, slowly retreating white head leaving lacerings over darker golden coloured beer. Dry malts, hints at noble hops, giving an appetizing smell. Quite bitter flavour, dry bitterness with a sweeter malty finish as underbuild. Good carbonation, light alcoholwarmth and a really dry aftertaste. Very good tripel, with an unusual but balanced long-lasting bitterness.

Golden colour, small steady white head and lace. Light fruity-spicey tripel nose. Light to medium-bodied. Some fruityness (banana), spice, alcohol. Ok tripel.

Pours clear , darker blonde. Small white head - rather large with much cling. Scent is gentle, banana ice cream. Taste is full, malty, mild bitter. Typical BE yeast, estery, but balanced. Still, very refined in the meantime. Very well made tripel.

Geel bier met schuim. Smaak is krachtig, licht bitter en fruitig zoet met iets van banaan, wat abrikoos en koriander. Heel goede tripel.

Bottle 33 cl. Golden, slightly fogged, excellent white foam. Aroma: like pear, perfumery, higher alcohols, esters, light spice. Taste: strong, slightly alcoholic, bitter hops, light spice, a little pear, lively carbonation.

Appearance: cloudy gold with a moderate white head of medium retention. Aroma: candy, grain, apricot, spicy and fruity yeast, leather. Taste: moderately sweet, malty, fruity, spicy. Grain, candy, apricot, leather, moderate alcohol, hop. Light lingering ending bitterness. Mouth feel: medium to full body, average carbonation. Summary: a fair tripel.

The tripel in this 'threesome' of new abbey beers honouring the old Boudelo abbey in Stekene, bottle from De Wilde in Zele. Egg-white, thick, plastery lacing, even-bubbled, frothy head on a misty, warm orangey peach blonde beer with lots of visible sparkling. Aroma of dried peach, green garden weeds, honey, coriander seed, straw, white bread, sweetclover, camomile, fresh croissants, banana peel. Fruity onset, sweetish with clear banana ester, hints of apricot and red apple, lively carbonated - bit stinging even; full and rounded mouthfeel, some sweetish honey over a bready and very lightly caramelized maltiness, bringing forward a soapy coriander touch at the end (luckily kept subtle) and a grassy, floral and bit weedy hop bitterness, combining with a calvados-like alcohol warmth. The hop bitterness is confident enough, but still less so than in the blonde in this series - alas, because this is exactly what could have set this tripel a bit apart. The malt, residual sugar and ester sweetness gets the last word, along with the booze, though this latter aspect never becomes overly wry or annoying. Technically, this is a very well made tripel - it shows all those years of experience these guys have - but what I already stated for the blonde, is even more true for this one: this Boudelo range is deliberately cliché and accessible to the masses, a trio of crowd pleasers far removed from the very interesting things Musketeers did until just a few years ago. I guess I am, in a way, helping to pay the price of opening their own, state-of-the-art brewery...
