Imperial Stout + Chocolate + Raspberries

An imperial stout brewed with raspberries and Valrhona cocoa nibs. Rich flavours of chocolate and fruit collide with boozy heat.

Building on our repertoire of wild stouts we have combined our love of locally foraged fruits with our penchant for sweet dark beers. The combination of fruit and chocolate is always amazing and what better way to combat the cold nights of the changing seasons than with a rich warming stout?

Bottle picked up from a Deli in Hay on Wye, Powys, consumed at Isobel, Baz and Judes, Builth Wells, Powys, Wales, Saturday 11th November 2017. Lots of lovely raspberries here, tangy, fruity but then the chocolate comes through. The raspberries really are excellent, loving this. Drinking this whilst cooking a Mexican meal. Bottle split with Erwin Van Moll @ Brewpub Van Moll. Opaque pitch black color, huge foamy fizzy beige head. Aroma is malts, huge raspberry and red fruit. Taste malts, huge raspberry and red fruit again with a slight dark brown malt touch. Don't get cocoa nibs. Tart, raspberry and red fruit dominates though overall it's balanced ok. Body is medium but carbonation is annoyingly high and fizzy. Decent. 7-4-7-2-14. -- After the carbonation dies it's a lot better, easier drinkable. Up to 7-4-7-3-15.

Bottle shared in Hackney - thanks to Danny. Pours deep brown with a small, creamy tan head. Nice aroma, a mix of chocolate, raspberry, soft roast. Medium sweet flavour with more raspberry, brownies, mellow roast, cocoa. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Fairly sweet finish, more chocolate-covered raspberries, mellow roasted malts. Very drinkable stuff.

Keg at Salt Horse. Black body with a tan head that slowly fades. Faint lacing. Aroma of cocoa powder, charred wood and Black Forest gateaux. Flavour of sharp raspberries, milk chocolate and a squeeze of lemon. Thin to medium body with a watery mouthfeel. Soft fizz. This is nice, but I prefer the richer Raspberry Dog Chew, which - in my opinion - has more body, depth and balance.
