The West Country's favourite beer derives from pure Mendip Spring Water…notably bitter, clean tasting, refreshingly dry and distinctive. Made with 100% best Maris Otter malt (the Rolls Royce of malts), together with a blend of (never divulged) English hop varieties…Butcombe Bitter is a moreish Mendip masterpiece!

Cask at the Park Tavern,Eltham. Copper coloured pour with a white head. Nuts,malt,touch of fruitcake in the nose. Dried fruit,nuts,whisper of citrus in the taste. Competent tasty bitter.

Can at Spoons Stansted Airport. Nutty brown with a small bubbly off white head. Aroma is caramel, fruit and a little spice. Flavour is toffee and not a lot else

Cask (Village Inn, Shanklin) - Copper in colour. Raisins, caramel and a hint of spice in the aroma. Nicely balanced taste with dried fruit, caramel and a moderate bitterness.

500 ml bottle, as Butcombe Original Beer, bought in Jersey..ABV is 4.5%.Beautiful clear amber colour, moderate to small head, slightly off-white. Malty and grainy aroma, hints of toffee. The flavour is also malty and grainy with a hint of caramel, but not sweet. Moderate earthy and "dusty" hops. Okay, but not remarkable.

Cask pint at The Post Horn, St. Helier. ABV 4.0%. Deep copper colour, off-white head. Malty aroma, a hint of malt vinegar. Malty flavour, slightly sweet, again with a hint of malt vinegar. Undistinctive.
