American Wild Ale with Blackberries Aged in Oak Barrels

Blackberries as big as your palm, deserve a beer with flavors just as grand. This American Wild Ale was aged in oak barrels with Brazos blackberries. The addition of fresh blackberries impart a sweet-tart flavor with fruit forward notes. Pleasantly sour with a crisp and refreshing finish.

Sample at Bob's Bar during the Bruery Almost 12 Beers Of Christmas Night! event on 12/05/2019. Hazy reddish-brown color with a medium thin light beige head that diminishes steadily to an outer ring. Stringy lace. Aroma of berries, yeast, oak and malt. Medium body with flavors of tart blackberry, spice, oak and doughy malt. The finish is tart and oaky with a berry aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750ml bottle pours a dark amber with some frothy khaki head that faded to a ring. Nose has big acetic notes, apple cider and balsamic vinegars, neutral barrels, tobacco leaf, rhubarb, the berry is there. Right out of the bottle it was jammy, but the jam fades to the vinegar both in the nose and on the tongue. Flavor also has pomegranate and balsamic, tobacco, cheap red wine. Finishes acetic and tannic, which is an interesting combo, big vinegar bite. Maybe a bit overdone on both acid and alcohol. 7 3 7 2 13
