330ml can Sophie's Beer Store. Dark pour with good tan head. Aroma brings rich chocolate, fairly distant cherries. Taste is all about the smooth chocolate and dark malts, cherry really taking a backseat and only coming through slightly as it warms. Expect more of a black forest gateaux vibe with deep cherry flavours but unfortunately it falls short, though the chocolate character is quite nice.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 24/01/21. Pitch black with a good sized tan head that stays for the show. Nose is dark chocolate, light spice, roast malts, cherry skins, toffee, berry fruit notes. Taste comprises Black Forest Gateaux, cacao nibs, light charr, roasted bite, molasses, cherry pipe tobacco, light spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced kiss of alcohol. Solid impy ... improved as it warmed up and the flavours developed.

Dry january is onzinnig. Aardige stout met een gelukkig redelijk subtiele kersensmaak. Maar uiteindelijk had ik toch liever een "gewone" RIS gehad.

Can from Frontaal online. Cloudy black, stable, frothy, beige head. Aroma of date, candied cherry, Kirsch, vanilla, chocolate praliné, (Grany) biscuit, dark fudge. Taste has sweet candied cherry & date, almost in a liqueur-like way, quite a thick chocolatey, praliné-like body with a touch of vanilla, only lightly toasty. Bitter chocolate powder & coffee & a very subtle umami accent lead the way to an earthy hoppy finish where cocoa nibs & cherry become more prominent again. Warming liqueur alcohol (Kirsch) tops it off. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Very sweet cherry element throughout but sufficient balance, likeable!
